ENOUGH FANZINE
Knut - Challenger (Hydra Head)

A few words would already be enough to say anything important about the new Knut release: A MUST HAVE! But if you're not already on your way to get it, here are some more words to praise this release. The first song on the CD (LP available, too), called "whacked out" starts with a kind of an little intro but it doesn't even take a minute and the total heaviness of Knut is taking over, conquering your head, feet and heart. Knut chose their name from the Russian word for a whip with metal hooks on leather strips, and even if a whip like this isn't a nice thing to think about it doesn't even get close to the nastiness of these nine songs. Heavy, brutal, sometimes chaotic, and always intense to the maximum. After six songs, the song "58.788" gives me a little chance to catch my breath, being an acoustic guitar track. But even this track is filled with darkness and desperation. Another remarkable song (well all songs are...) is "march", being almost 15 minutes long, reminding a bit of Black Sabbath with it's noisy and psychedelic influences. Adding the hidden track and the top production, "challenger" is the state of the art concerning "smart metal". All you bands who call yourself heavy or brutal, just dig this release and most of you will be proven as liars! "Challenger" is probably the best album of passionate and heavy music to come out this year!!!
