Knut are a perfect example of the new Hydra Head in action. As the opening track "Dissolve" sets this EP in motion the receptive listener's head begins to nod in acknowledgement of the record's quality. This is in sharp contrast to albums like Cave In's Until Your Heart Stops; listening to that album was like detoxing. It felt like bugs were crawling just beneath the surface of your skin and at any moment your whole body might explode like an over-filled balloon. Knut, on the other hand will make you stomp your foot in time with the song's mid-paced rhythm and perhaps even shout "yeehaw!" at certain opportune moments.

The chug of the opening track quickly gives way to "Aim At the Sun," another track that is short on length but long on groove. My favourite, though, is "The Will To Please," with a recording thicker and heavier than anything I've heard on record. The bass guitar sounds more like a chainsaw than any string instrument I've ever heard, dragging the sound closer to what you'd actually hear at a good show of this type than any other record in recent memory.
